In 2001, at the peak of his bodyboarding career, Joel Taylor was paralysed in a surf accident at Pipeline, Hawaii.

For 20 years, he stayed out of the water, struggling with the loss of his identity. The birth of his son reignited his connection to the ocean and led him into the world of para-surfing.

Beyond the Break follows Joel on his journey toward a world title, capturing the highs and lows of training, competition, and family life.

Featuring appearances from lifelong friend Winston McCall (Parkway Drive), the film is an intimate portrait of resilience, community, and the pursuit of purpose after life-changing adversity.
