Like so many Aussie kids, sisters Adelaide and Lucinda Miller were partially brought up by their nanna Ann, ‘Nansie’. Roles were reversed when Nansie was diagnosed with dementia in 2018. Now adults, Adelaide and Lucinda are initially frustrated and confused about Nansie’s unpredictable behaviour, but as they embark on a four-year journey of discovery – one that tests the limits of what is possible within the confines of the disease as well as themselves as occasional carers for their grandmother – they also learn to accept things and to appreciate Nansie more than ever.

“More than 1.5 million Australians care for someone living with dementia, it is the second leading cause of death for all women,” says Nansie director Anna Trichet Laurier. “I chose to tell the sisters’ story because it is a universal one and I believe that it is a journey that can inspire anyone. It is a gentle approach to the complex condition that is dementia for a younger audience and their families.

“Nansie is also sharing a lot of her thoughts, allowing us to get a glimpse of what’s happening in the world of someone living with dementia. I wanted to offer a genuine insight into what many carers are going through, showing the good and the bad moments without any filters.”
